What does happiness mean to you?

I’ve been wanting to share this blog with you guys for a while. A question that was stuck in my head was ‘’what is happiness?’’ I asked my friends what happiness meant for them. Their answers were kind of the same as mine.
Me, being happy in Chicago

For a long time, I was searching for happiness. I would tell myself that if I get that car/job or whatever, I would be happy. I did not realize that it’s just temporary fulfillment of happiness.
Happiness for me is being happy at the moment. Making the best out of every situation. We all have our struggles in life because, oh well, it’s just life. But getting stuck and being negative is never going to change anything. We need to change our attitude towards the problem.

Happiness is your own choice. You decide to be happy with yourself and everything else in the moment. I used to think that other people could make me happy. I would put so much power in their hands without realizing it. It all depended on them and most of the time, they were not making me happy or maybe just for a short period but those days are long gone.

Happiness is in the mind. We can control our mind and it should be filled with positivity. My mind sometimes slips into a negative thought but I consciously overrule that with a thought that gives me happiness and joy. I try to picture it in front of me.

Lately, I’ve been trying to read positive books that will teach me something. I started reading The Secret and so far, it really helped me. I’m sorry guys but I’m not the happy/positive person 24/7 for 365 days so I decided to work on it because we all have our own flaws. Do these people even exist?

Well, my big sister might be one. She is naturally a happy and grateful person. I always admire her for that. If something’s not going well with me, I would be sad and down. I’d keep going on about it but she would just see it from a different angle and tell me to let it go and not be the victim. For example, I once wanted to do something that I love but I was making up excuses for not doing it. She just told me that if you want something, you got to do something for it. You can tell that her approaches to situations were very different from mine.
Another thing that is very important with being happy is being grateful. I mean, ask yourself “how can someone be happy without being grateful?” We should be grateful for what we have and the things that we have done in our life. People in some countries do not have much in life but are so thankful and most importantly, happy.

So to summarize,

true happiness is within. It is a state of mind and your attitude towards situations and life. You can’t experience true happiness without gratefulness.

So, yeah guys, spread happiness everywhere. Sprinkle the happy positive vibe on everyone in every situation. Or in other words, be the ray of sunshine.

Are you happy? What does happiness mean to you?

Ps. If you know someone who is struggling and having a hard time, try to help them even if it's just listening to them.
